Bernie Will Need People In Congress who Aren’t Owned By Special Interests

Check out this latest email from Bernie Sanders. He’s already making his action plans for when he gets to the White House! (fyi – those “contribute” links are Bernie’s and not mine)

Bernie Sanders is committed to the political revolution — and so is Democracy for America. That’s why we’re so excited to see this game-changing email from Bernie Sanders, asking supporters to contribute directly to three DFA-endorsed progressive heroes running for the U.S. House: Lucy Flores, Pramila Jayapal, and Zephyr Teachout.

Bernie makes it very clear in this message: if he’s going to be successful in the White House, he needs allies in Congress. Lucy Flores, Pramila Jayapal, and Zephyr Teachout have each endorsed Bernie Sanders, and are committed to the same agenda he is — taking back our country from the wealthy elites, fixing our broken campaign finance system, and fighting for universal health care. This is important: Bernie is asking us to chip in $3 or more to support these courageous candidates and build the political revolution — can you step up today to help them? Thank you so much. — Jim Dean, Chair, Democracy for America

I need these 3 Democratic women in Congress when I’m president.

Meet Lucy Flores, Pramila Jayapal, and Zephyr Teachout.

Our political revolution isn’t planning to just stop at the White House, John. We’re going to need people in Congress who also aren’t owned by special interests.

That’s why I’m excited to tell you about three Democratic women running for Congress who embody the spirit of our political revolution, and whose campaigns I’m asking you to support. I’m going to need them in Congress when I’m president. Can you help get them there?

Lucy Flores challenges the establishment

Lucy Flores was the first Latina Assemblywoman in Nevada and made national news when she became one of the first elected officials to testify about an abortion she had at the age of 16. She’s not your typical politician — she initially dropped out of high school, then got her GED and went to law school. Her community invested in her, and now she’s giving back to her community.

Lucy’s not afraid to challenge the establishment either. She endorsed our political revolution, and then suffered backlash from some in the political establishment who abandoned her. Now Lucy is running a grassroots campaign for Congress and needs the help of our political revolution to win.

Pramila Jayapal wins fights for progressive policies

When Pramila Jaypal announced that she was going to run for a seat in Congress in her home of Seattle, she said, “What Congress needs is a progressive voice who is unafraid to take on these powerful interests — who is willing to fight for all Americans, not just the wealthiest 1 percent.”

I like the sound of that. Pramila Jayapal helped lead the fights for paid sick leave and a $15 minimum wage in Seattle. She isn’t afraid to take on special interest groups either. Hers is a progressive voice we definitely need in Congress.

Zephyr Teachout takes on political corruption

Zephyr Teachout literally wrote the book on political corruption. She understands better than anybody how special interests try to buy off politicians, and she’s dedicated her life to fixing our broken political system.

Zephyr is running for Congress in New York with a grassroots campaign. More than 10,000 people have already chipped in to help her continue her fight against political corruption from the House of Representatives. She’s the real deal. Let’s make sure she gets elected.

Throughout this campaign, I’ve told you that no candidate for president — not Bernie Sanders, not the greatest president you could possibly imagine — can take on the billionaire class alone.

Lucy Flores, Pramila Jayapal, and Zephyr Teachout are exactly the kind of people I’m going to need in Congress when I am president. And we can help them get there. That’s why your contribution is so important.

In solidarity,

Bernie Sanders
